  • AZGFD Offers Fish Tips, 'New News'

    AZGFD|Feb 1, 2016

Tip Alamo Lake can be a crappie hot spot this time of the year. Heavy rains might delay the great winter crappie bite, but it bodes well for the lake's productivity. Catfishing can still be excellent. These voracious channel catfish at Alamo routinely feed on shad. Try live minnows on the bottom or drop-shot style just off the bottom. The Reel Deal Water temperatures across the state have dropped to their winter standards, and rain and snow has slowed or stalled driving in the high country. Be... Full story

  • From The Deck

Don McDowell, Shake Rattle and Troll Radio|Feb 1, 2016

I review hundreds of products over the course of the year and few have the "WOW" factor this one does. In today's society, personal security is on everyone's mind. Choosing a hand gun for personal protection certainly is a matter of individual choice, and I personally choose the Colt Combat Elite Series 80, 1911 .45ACP. One problem, though, with the Colt 1911 and other quality hand guns is they don't have a factor rail system for the addition of lights and lasers. Being a regular customer at... Full story

  • Little Bits Of Fun

    Herman|Feb 1, 2016

I changed my car horn to gunshot sounds. People get out of the way much faster now. Optimism is going after Moby Dick in a rowboat and taking the tartar sauce with you! You know that tingly little feeling you get when you really like someone? That's common sense leaving your body. I didn't make it to the gym today. That makes five years in a row. I decided to change calling the bathroom the John and renamed it the Jim. I feel so much better saying I went to the Jim this morning. Old age is... Full story

  • Snatcher Evolution

Don McDowell, Shake, Rattle And Troll Radio|Feb 1, 2016

The evolution of the lead spoons or flat falls continues with local Striper Guide Derrick Franks, aka The Striper Snatcher. I told you previously of the 3" jig very effective in fresh and saltwater. Well he's taken the lure to the next level, with the 5", 130 gram version with high performance Daiichi saltwater hooks. The jigs performance on the fall is more erratic than any I ever seen or used. Like the 3" version, the Snatcher has standard colors and has the ability to custom finish with your... Full story

The plant's scientific name is your first clue that it is something that you do not want. Botanists know it as Salvinia molesta. It's commonly known as giant salvinia. Native to South America, the floating fern made its way to the United States via the ornamental plant industry. It's pretty, but the beauty belies serious economic and ecological harm that usually follow when it is accidentally or purposely released into the wild. John Naugle would know. He's a fisheries biological technician at... Full story
