The Lake Pleasant Paddle Fest event is Saturday, April 12 from 8 a.m.-5 p.m. in the Fireman's Cove area of Lake Pleasant Regional Park, the second park entrance off Castle Hot Springs Road (north entrance). On March 4, 2014, the Southwest Region of the U.S. Fish and Wildlife Service (Service) notified the public that the Service had designated 764,207 acres of land in southern Arizona as critical habitat for the rarely-present jaguar. This action completed the third review by the Service that examines the need for jaguar critical habitat in Arizona. The National Park Service and Utah Division of Wildlife Resources (UDWR) have recently detected additional adult quagga mussels in Lake Powell. Since this time last year, the water levels at Lake Powell have dropped which has exposed shorelines that were previously underwater. Thousands of adult quagga mussels have been found in various locations, such as canyon walls, Glen Canyon Dam, boats, and other underwater structures. Weather is warming and trees are budding in the high desert. It s time to start thinking about fishing and what to expect from Lake Powell in 2014. The lake has dipped to the lowest point since 2005 leaving brushy cover high and dry on the shoreline. Fortunately, there has been modest precipitation in the Colorado River drainage. March 5th, Jennifer Nakatani, a San Diego Angler member, was introduced as the 33rd Miss Yellowtail Derby at the San Diego Angler's monthly meeting by Derby Director John Campbell. ONE OF THE FIRST -- Kiwanis Park was among the first few parks to join the Community Fishing Program (CFP) back in 1984, just after Chaparral Park. This lovely park in Tempe has a 13-acre lake with several ramadas for anglers to stay in the shade while fishing.
