    AZGFD|Dec 1, 2016

Caught a tiger trout, yet? Try fishing the shorelines at Woods Canyon Lake. Some of our biologists were on the water at Woods Canyon, located on the Mogollon Rim, electrofishing from 7 p.m. to 4 a.m. for two days and caught more than 100 tiger trout. "This number of tiger trout was interesting to us because we usually pick up few trout by boat electrofishing," AZGFD Reservoir Biologist Sally Petre said. • Optimal Trolling Speeds Easy To Achieve With Happy Troller

    AZBW|Nov 1, 2016

Even at their lowest throttle, sterndrives and outboards can rarely power a boat at an optimal trolling speed. Many gamefish simply won't chase and strike at a lure that's moving too fast. The updated Happy Troller from Davis Instruments slows even large engines when deployed, increases stability when cruising, and now has a 45° setting for added flexibility. Built to last in fresh and saltwater, the Happy Troller is made from high-quality stainless steel components and hardware, and anodized... Full story

  • Lake Powell Fish Report

    Wayne Gustaveson|Aug 1, 2016

'Quality of life is measured by amount of time spent fishing.' Stripers have moved out of the main channel and toward the backs of canyons. The move indicates that the shad food source has been well used in open water of the channel and bays. Slurping stripers have been relentless in pursuit of small newly-hatched shad. Those shad that have survived are seeking a sanctuary in the brush that now lines the shoreline. Shad have a better chance of avoiding predation if there is some kind of brushy... Full story

    AZGFD|Aug 1, 2016

Tip Of The Week For those athletic anglers looking for lots of exercise, good fishing, and no crowds, try Chevelon Lake. This steep-sided canyon lake is not shore-angler friendly, so float tubes, canoes or kayaks are almost a must. The hike-in is knee-challenging on the way down and the long hike back up the steep trail will take your breath away in more ways than one. For aging anglers who are out of shape, avoid this lake; it's a cardiac special. New fishing regulations on Chevelon Creek... Full story

  • Arizona Trout 'Amazes' Angler

    Mike Wallace|Jul 1, 2016

I have to eat my words "trout fishing in Arizona sucks". I have been spoiled by fishing states like Montana and Utah for trout in double digits. However, a friend, John Waters caught this amazing trout in an undisclosed stream in Arizona. Waters, after fishing for several hours, thought he saw a large trout in a pool. He cast a crawfish-colored crappie jig tied to 6-pound test mono to the back of the pool. When he began to retrieve, he felt what he thought was a hang-up. However, before he got t... Full story

  • Quagga-Affected Waters Grow

    AZBW|Jun 1, 2016

The Arizona Game and Fish Department listed these lakes as AIS-affected waters under AIS Directors Orders #2 at the beginning of May. There is not an infestation of quaggas at Apache, Saguaro or Canyon. Yet there is genetic and visual evidence in all these waters of the invasive quaggas that colonize rapidly on hard surfaces and can ruin... Full story
