SACRAMENTO, Calif. – The Department of Boating and Waterways (DBW) announces the 14th Annual Life Jacket Trade-In. Events will be held at 30 locations across the state on May 24 and 25. Of the 53 boating fatalities reported to DBW last year, 33 drowned. All drowning victims were found without life jackets on. Editor, I went to a training session in Lake Mead in October and the alarm bells went off. With no real plan being developed by the agencies, other than "its the law," I was fearful California, Arizona, and Nevada could kill our weekend boater traffic. This $1 Million dollar check from Mustad was awarded to Guy Yokum because he used a Mustad hook. Yokum was the first in 2012 to submit and get his world record fish on a Mustad hook. A new National Park Service report shows that more than 10.1 million national park visitors in Arizona in 2011 spent $766 million and supported 12,886 jobs in the state. Sacramento, Calif. – October through December are statistically the most dangerous months for anglers on California’s waterways. The California Department of Boating and Waterways (DBW) boating accident statistics show that close to 90 percent of all fishing-related boating fatalities in the off-season involve vessels capsizing or people falling overboard.
