  • 'Fish Arizona'

    AZGFD, Arizona Game & Fish Department|Jun 15, 2013

Tip Of The Week If you're bass fishing and having a hard time with standard techniques such as the dropshot or Texas rig, try something a little different: Flick-shaking. This method can include a 1/16-ounce jig hook, and a 5 ½-inch flick shake worm (made by Jackall or Bass Pro Shops). Hook the worm right in the middle so that it’s whacky style. Try a spinning rod and 8-pound test line. As the jig sinks, pull up a bit to see if a bass is hitting the worm on the fall. Once the bait hits the bo... Full story

  • Arizona - Urban Fishing Report

    AZGFD, Arizona Game & Fish Department|Jun 15, 2013

With catfish stockings at all Phoenix and Tucson urban waters on hold during the summer months, fishing becomes more challenging, requiring anglers to be adaptable, patient and persistent. Plenty of wily catfish still lurk the depths of the lakes, especially larger lakes of more than 4 acres. Catfishing is fair for anglers using worms, stink baits, or shrimp fished on the bottom. Catfish can be caught throughout the day, but are most active when the sun goes down. Most catfish are from 14-18... Full story

  • Lake Powell

    Wayne Gustaveson, www.wayneswords.com|May 15, 2013

One week after the spring fishing peak and fishing is still good. A lingering cold front has slowed fishing for bass slightly but stripers continue to eat bait in the southern lake. One disturbing note is that lake level is still going down, making it uncertain that the lake will rise much during the normal runoff period. There is still time but the runoff is slow to start. A lower lake leaves brush out of the water and causes access problems at some ramps. Hite ramp is closed but other ramps at... Full story

    AZGFD|May 15, 2013

The commission, a citizen panel appointed by the governor to set policy for the Washington Department of Fish and Wildlife (WDFW), decided against a proposal that would have limited the fishing season for cabezon by several months. • Fishing Tip Of The Week

    AZGFD, AZGFD|May 15, 2013

It seems the predominant philosophy in most angling circles is that boat, jet ski and water ski traffic only spooks fish. Well, not according to local fishing professional and Bass Pro at Bass Pro Shops, Gary Senft. His belief on the matter might make your head spin like a rooster tail. In a way, all that traffic can be a good thing, Senft says. The traffic stirs up the water, which churns up plankton. Shad eat plankton, and bass move in and start gobbling shad. Besides, fish, particularly in... Full story

The first 28 years of the Yellowtail Derby, began the end of March 1946 and ran for six months. Anglers were more interested in tuna in the fall. We listened! The move to spring in 2011 brought many more anglers into the competition, as well as the number of fish caught, including the winning 39.5 lb. Yellowtail caught in the waters off La Jolla. The Yellowtail Derby has added excitement to the traditional yellowtail spring bite. Fast Forward To 2013 The Yellowtail Derby will be competed from... Full story

  • Lake Powell Report

    Wayne Gustaveson|Apr 15, 2013

Stripers are still running along the canyon walls in the southern lake. They spilled into the main channel 3 weeks ago and have been eager to hit bait offered by anglers ever since. I have heard they are chasing boats, begging for anchovies. Well, that may be a bit much, but if you pass over some hungry stripers please stop and feed them! Glen Canyon dam still holds the majority of the fish, but many are behind the barricade out of casting range. The Chains parking area offers good shore... Full story

Unfortunately, many lakes and streams remain inaccessible, but any day now — Rarin’ To Go One lake is raring to... Full story

The fish facility consists of a fish ladder, viewing window, fish trap and holding pond. Every adult salmon and steelhead heading upstream is...  Website
