REMEMBERING SHADOW -- For over 10 years, little Shadow Fitch-Allen was the constant, loving companion of Jack Fitch and the late Margie Allen, Rociada, N.M. He loved the mountain country of New Mexico and his happy life with these two humans and his friend Puppy (both shown in our September/October issue on page 14). This July, Shadow and Puppy began their "vacation" at Fur & Feather Animal Shelter (article on this page) near Pie Town, N.M. Here he made many other canine, and some feline, friends. The humans too at Fur & Feather were delighted with the friendliness, energy, and happy spirit of this little Cairn terrier. Sadly, Shadow had a stroke in early October and left this world very quickly. He is buried, with honor and respect, at Fur & Feather. We are thankful for the joy he brought into our lives and will not be forgotten.

Duchess changed worlds recently. Laurie took her to the veterinarian but she couldn’t be saved. “She twisted an intestine last night. It's a sad day. Duchess was a wonderful girl. Everyone that met her loved her. Here is a comment by Rhea one of our volunteers: Oh, Laurie, that is horrible. I can understand how attached you were. I did not see her that often and felt really attached also. It is definitely a sad day..... At least, we gave her some of the love she deserved before her life here ended. Though that does something to help a little, the loss is still immensely felt. She will be missed greatly by me as well. I've got to go give my two a hug and shed some tears. I am mourning the loss of Duchess. Went out to hug my doggies and shed some tears and was greeted by a beautiful rainbow which stayed around for quite some time....
