Tonto Creek Hatchery Host Wanted

When: May 2015 to Sept. 2015

Where: Tonto Creek Hatchery is located approximately 17 miles east of Payson, Ariz.

Description: The hatchery host is a volunteer who lives onsite and interacts with visitors, assists with tours, and helps with light facility upkeep.

Example of Duties: Host duties include interacting with visitors, picking up litter, cleaning visitor restrooms, replacing full sign-in sheets, tracking visitor numbers, maintaining and updating department pamphlets in visitor center information boxes, occasionally feeding fish, and other duties as needed. Host is on duty Friday, Saturday, and Sunday from 8-5 p.m. Occasional work during the week may also be needed. Expect 20-30 hours weekly.

Knowledge, Skills, Abilities: Host should have good communication and interpersonal skills, enjoy talking with different types of people, provide excellent customer service, and follow supervision/instruction from hatchery staff. Host should be able to perform basic cleaning and maintenance duties. Knowledge of trout fishing, birding, and Arizona wildlife is a plus.

Training: Volunteer host will receive training in the following areas: interacting with visitors, answering visitor questions, safety training, and basic fish culture.

Other Notes: Must have own travel trailer or motor home. A recreational vehicle hook-up site is provided. Water, electricity, and sewer is provided. Applicants will need to provide references and will be interviewed via a phone interview with hatchery staff. A background check may be required.
