Times Spent Outdoors: Priceless!
Hualapai tribe's economic developments efforts continue to grow, bringing jobs, revenues to region.
A soaring number of visitors to the Grand Canyon Skywalk and other Grand Canyon West tourism attractions made 2015 a record year for the Grand Canyon Resort Corporation.
On Monday, Dec. 21, 2015, the Grand Canyon West venues recorded their record-breaking 1 millionth visitor for 2015. The milestone was celebrated by treating Jenny and Mike Kim, the record-breaking visitors, to the full range of experiences available to Grand Canyon West guests.
A Very Special Moment
"This is a very special moment for the Grand Canyon West, the Corporation and for all of our employees," said Hualapai Tribal Council Chairwoman Sherry Counts. "One million visitors represents an increase of more than 120,000 guests in the past year alone. That's huge - and these attractions will continue to get better in the year ahead. A new visitors' center, a new restaurant and other new attractions mean more reasons for people to visit in 2016. We want every day and every visit to be memorable for one and all."
Owned By Hualapai Tribe
Grand Canyon West, operated by the Grand Canyon Resort Corporation, is owned by the Hualapai Tribe. GCRC oversees operations of Grand Canyon West, Grand Canyon Skywalk, Hualapai River Runners, and the Hualapai Lodge. In 2013, the Grand Canyon West attractions combined to host about 827,000 visitors, with that number rising to 882,000 visitors in 2014. The jump to top one million visitors represents an increase of more than 13 percent in the past year.
"This has been a fantastic year in terms of business for Grand Canyon West, for the Hualapai Tribe, for tribe members and for the region," said Grand Canyon Resort Corporation CEO Mark Mortenson.
'Even Better In 2016'
"The Tribe and its members' commitment to economic development and to the attractions and experiences that comprise GCW remains strong," said Mortenson. "One million visitors to Grand Canyon West in the past year means more revenue for the region, more jobs and better quality of life for so many residents. We look forward to performing even better in 2016 and continuing to drive the tourism industry across the region."
