Times Spent Outdoors: Priceless!
Recreation Fees Waived At Most Day-Use Sites
PHOENIX – November 8, 2021 — The Tonto National Forest Supervisor's Office along with all ranger district offices will be closed Thursday, November 11, in observance of Veterans Day.
Ranger district offices will resume normal business hours on Friday, November 12. The Supervisor's Office remains temporarily closed to the public.
People visiting the Tonto on November 11 also can enjoy many day-use recreation sites -- such as picnic grounds, shorelines, and boat launches operated by the Tonto -- for free as the Tonto will waive fees in honor of Americans who served in the armed forces.
Note that fees charged by concessionaires at facilities they operate on the Tonto, as well as fees for overnight camping at developed campgrounds on the Tonto, will not be waived.
Visitors are encouraged to contact the appropriate ranger district office to know before they go, check the weather forecast and practice basic safety precautions when hiking, fishing or camping on the Tonto.
The Forest Service participates in fee-free days with other federal land management agencies to encourage Americans to visit their public lands. Veterans Day is the final fee-free day for 2021. The next fee-free day will be January 17, 2022, in observance of the Martin Luther King Jr., holiday.
The fee-free program is held in conjunction with other federal land management agencies under the Federal Lands Recreation Act.
A Tonto Pass normally is required at day-use sites and can be purchased at over 200 vendor locations, through automated fee machines installed conveniently near recreation sites, and at local Forest Service district ranger offices. Recreation passes and permits information along with vendor locations are available on the Tonto website.
