Times Spent Outdoors: Priceless!
A Mindset: Imagine Cool Waters
The hottest low. The hottest high. The warmest summer. The long, hot summer. Needless to say, it's too hot. Period.
Records have been broken and, unfortunately, both humans and animals without shelter have suffered tremendously. And, although we are usually celebrating outdoor activity in this publication, we instead are urging caution now when recreating outside.
Arizona is one of the hottest places on earth from May to September. Heat-related illnesses are common during the summer, and some heat-related illnesses can even be fatal. However, you can find resources and tips to stay hydrated and safe in the Arizona heat. If you are experiencing a medical emergency or any symptoms of heat-related illness, call 911 immediately.
Cooling centers are an important resource during extreme heat events and are especially critical for houseless individuals or those without adequate cooling in their homes. You can call 211 to speak to a specialist about heat-related services in your area. Other sites to contact include https://hrn.azmag.gov/ and https://211arizona.org/crisis/heat-relief/.
"This too shall pass", but until then, we at Arizona Boating & Watersports/Western Outdoor Times urge you to be especially alert and careful until our temperatures are more conducive to outdoors activities.
Imagine cool waters and drink lots of it before you venture outside.
